Significant Incidents: September 2018
Renton RFA responded to 1,373 incidents during the month of September, 2018. Below are details on the most significant incidents that occurred throughout the month.
9 Significant Fires
On 9/2/18 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 11’s area at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on 99 Wells Ave S. We responded in conjunction with Skyway FD, Tukwila FD and Kent FD with 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 13 personnel from stations 11, 12 and 14. The cause of this incident was a trash can fire inside of the church. There was one injury due to smoke inhalation and that person was treated at the scene.
On 9/5/18 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 13’s area on the 18600 block of 108th Ave SE in the Benson Hill neighborhood. We responded in conjunction with Kent FD and Tukwila FD with 2 engines, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 10 personnel from stations 13 and 17. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident and is still under investigation. There were no injuries and no one was displaced by the fire.
On 9/7/18 Renton RFA responded to a trash fire in Station 14’s area on the 830 block of Sunset Blvd in Downtown Renton. We responded in conjunction with Skyway FD and Tukwila FD with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 brush truck and 1 officer rig for a total of 15 personnel from stations 11, 14 and 17. The fire was caused by burning trash from a homeless camp. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
On 9/7/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire in Station 13’s area on the 18000 block of 120th Ave SE in the Benson Hill neighborhood. We responded in conjunction with Kent FD with 2 engines and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel from stations 13 and 17. The cause of the fire was a portable lawn mower which caught fire and spread to the shed. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
On 9/7/18 Renton RFA responded to a brush fire in Station 11’s area on the 1200 block of Monster Rd SW in Downtown Renton. We responded with 2 engines, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11, 13 and 14. The fire was caused by some discarded materials which caught fire. There were no injuries and no one was displaced by the fire.
On 9/13/18 Renton RFA responded to an outside trash fire in Station 11’s area on Sunset Blvd NE under I-405. We responded with 2 engines and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel from stations 11 and 12. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident. Whether or not there was damage to the freeway overpass by the fire was also undetermined at the time of the incident. However, WASDOT was notified so they could inspect the freeway overpass. The fire was located in an area of a known transient camp. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
On 9/19/18 Renton RFA responded to a commercial building fire at 8420 S 228th St in Kent. We responded in conjunction with Kent FD with 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11, 13 and 14. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident. There were also no injuries as a result of the fire. The business involved in the fire was a total loss.
On 9/24/18 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 17’s area on the 17500 block of 151st Ave SE in Fairwood. We responded in conjunction with Kent FD and Tukwila FD with 5 engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 aid cars and 2 officer rigs for a total of 24 personnel from stations 11, 13, 14, 16 and 17. The preliminary cause of the fire was determined to be arcing of electrical wires in the attic of the building. There were no injuries as a result of the fire however 6 people were displaced due to the fire.
On 9/26/18 Renton RFA responded to a building fire at 22241 105th Ave SE in Kent. We responded in conjunction with Kent FD with 1 engine, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 6 personnel from station 13. The cause of the fire was determined to be the electrical panel in the building. The power to the building was turned off and the fire was extinguished. As the fire was extinguished it was discovered this was a marijuana grow operation. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
3 Significant EMS Calls
On 9/6/18 Renton RFA responded to a fatality motorcycle accident in Station 17’s area at the intersection of SE Petrovitsy Rd and Parkside Way SE in the Fairwood neighborhood. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 6 personnel from station 17. The cause of the accident was undetermined at the time of the incident. CPR was attempted on the patient but ultimately unsuccessful.
On 9/11/18 Renton RFA responded to a Zone 3 Dive response Normandy Park. We responded in conjunction with Burien FD with 1 dive rig and 1 officer rig for a total of 5 personnel from station 12. It was believed there was one drowning victim with the victim last seen 150 yards from shore. During dive operations the victim was found at home alive and well with no injuries.
On 9/25/18 Renton RFA responded to a car versus bicyclist accident in Station 12’s area at the 4200 block of NE Sunset Blvd in the Renton Highlands. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 6 personnel from station 12. The cause of the accident was undetermined at the time of the incident. The patient was transported to Harborview for further medical treatment.
