Significant Incidents: July 2018

Renton RFA responded to 1,611 incidents during the month of July, 2018. Below are details on the most significant incidents that occurred throughout the month.

8 Significant Fires

7/4/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on SE 134th St in Renton. We responded in conjunction with Eastside Fire & Rescue with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 17 personnel from stations 11, 12 and 16. The structure fire was a result of a vehicle stored inside the structure catching fire. There were no injuries from the fire but an estimated $28,000 in damage.

7/4/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on 153rd Ave SE in Fairwood. We responded in conjunction with Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 17 personnel from stations 11, 13 and 17. The structure fire was contained to the roof but it was determined to be caused by fireworks. There were no injuries from the fire but an estimated $16,500 in damage.

7/4/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on 100th Pl SE in Kent. We provided assistance to Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority with 1 officer rig for a total of 1 personnel. The fire was extinguished upon our arrival. We stayed with personnel from Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority to make sure the fire was in fact extinguished.

7/7/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on Williams Ave N in Renton. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 17 personnel from stations 11, 12 and 14. The fire was contained and did not spread to any other structure or property. There was one minor firefighter injury requiring minor medical treatment. There were two residents displaced by the fire and the Red Cross was called in to assist those residents with supplies and temporary shelter.

7/16/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on 84th Ave S. in Skyway. We provided assistance to Skyway Fire Department with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel. The fire was in what is believed to be a vacant house. The cause of the fire is undetermined but is being investigated by a King County Fire Investigator. At the time of the reporting of the fire 2 males were seen fleeing the scene. \

7/21/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on Vuemont Blvd NE in Renton. We responded in conjunction with Kent, Tukwila and Skyway Fire with 5 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car, 1 brush fire truck and 2 officer rigs for a total of 24 personnel from stations 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17. This fire was started due to a brush fire that spread igniting the structure fire. A witness saw children playing with a lighter where the fire started to grow in the brush. A butane lighter was found and turned over to the police for evidence. The fire was extinguished with no injuries and no one was displaced by the fire.

7/25/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on Monroe Ave in the Renton Highlands. We responded in conjunction with Tukwila Fire and Eastside Fire & Rescue with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 16 personnel from stations 11, 12, 14 and 16. This fire started on the porch of an apartment unit and the cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident. There were no injuries and no one was displaced.

7/30/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on NE 7th Ct in the Renton Highlands. We responded in conjunction with Eastside Fire & Rescue with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 16 personnel from stations 11, 12, 14 and 16. The cause of the fire was not determined. And it was not determined where the fire started. There were no injuries and no one was displaced.

2 Significant EMS

7/9/18 Renton RFA responded to an MVA on SE 177th St in Fairwood. We responded with 1 engine, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 6 personnel from station 17. The MVA was the collapse of a carport structure as a result of a minor impact by a U-Haul truck. 3 vehicles were crushed by the collapsed carport structure. There was very little noticeable damage to the U-Haul truck. And there were no injuries resulting from the carport collapse.

7/28/18 Renton RFA responded to a motorcycle MVA at 154th Pl SE and SE Jones Rd in Renton. We responded with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel from stations 11 and 16. The motorcyclist was seriously injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.

3 Significant Rescue

7/22/18 Renton RFA responded to SE Green Valley Rd in Black Diamond to assist with a rope rescue at the base of the Green River Gorge Bridge. We responded in conjunction with Black Diamond FD with 1 ladder truck and 1 officer rig for a total of 4 personnel. The patient was successfully rescued with no serious injuries.

7/25/18 Renton RFA responded to a swift water rescue call in Auburn at SE Green Valley Rd & 166th Ln SE. We responded in conjunction with King County Fire District #47 with 1 aid car, 1 officer rig and 1 dive unit for a total of 5 personnel from station 12. The 2 subjects in the river were successfully rescued with no injuries.

7/23/18 Renton RFA responded to a possible drowning at 14800 SE 272nd St in Kent. We responded in conjunction with Kent FD with 1 engine, 1 aid car, 1 dive rig and 1 officer rig for a total of 8 personnel from station 12. After assisting other dive units with the search no one was found and the search was terminated.
