On February 1, 2023, we had the opportunity to partner with the Nick of Time Foundation to perform heart screenings for the students across the Issaquah school district at Liberty High School, located here in Renton. Over 400 students signed up for the event, which included blood pressure checks and basic CPR instruction from our Renton RFA firefighters and neighboring departments alike.
Our firefighters separated into groups to perform their various duties, taking on a steady stream of students to ensure their cardiovascular health as we enter National Heart Month. Early detection can be a life saver – as can early education. Providing CPR instruction is something Renton RFA is very familiar with. Not only does Renton RFA help run a multi-agency CPR program for the region (found here), we have also seen cases of life-saving CPR making a huge impact for students and educators in our very own school district in recent years.
Let this month, especially, be a great reminder that heart health is extremely important! You can catch us at a public event or stop into a Renton fire station near you to receive a free blood pressure check during normal business hours. You can also checkout our CPR class schedule online to catch a friends and family class or become CPR and first aid certified (note: certification proves you’ve taken the class; it does not certify you to become a CPR educator).
Our organization cares deeply about the health and safety of our community members and our neighbors. We are grateful to the Nick of Time Foundation for sharing this great opportunity with us and allowing us to be of service in one more way that creates a positive ripple effect for the next generation. Stay safe, and don’t forget to check your heart health regularly!
