Renton RFA Ends 2020 on a Giving Note

The year 2020 was a difficult one for us all. While our community persevered in the face of a deadly global pandemic, some were hit harder than others. Despite the trials and tribulations we faced, it was more important than ever to our organization and our members to give back to the community that gives us so much. Here are a few of the activities we participated in to cap of 2020 on a high note:

Elf Academy

Put on by the City of Renton Recreation and Neighborhood Division, we were invited to help show Renton’s future elves how it’s done, as well as to hand out diplomas to those throughout the city who completed their tasks to become honorary elves! Our Station 13 firefighters were first on the scene, helping show off their sneaking and jumping skills as part of the agility portion of the Elf Academy curriculum. Here’s a video of them sharing their expertise with Renton’s elf-hopefuls:

In addition to helping show off their elf agility skills, we also were present on graduation day to cheer on those individuals who had done the hard work to become elves for the holiday season! Deputy Chief Mark Seaver was there alongside City and Police officials to handout the coveted Elf Academy diplomas…

Adopt-a-Family

Our organization, our members, the Local 864 Firefighters Union, and Renton Firefighters Benevolent Association enjoy working together to participate in the Adopt-a-Family Program each year. This year, our firefighters, along side the Office of the Fire Marshal, Support Services, and Administrative teams, were able to help EIGHT Renton families with gifts and meals for the holiday season. Santa joined our firefighters to deliver the gifts to the families in one of the Renton RFA backup rigs.

This particular event warms our hearts most of all because it is driven by the generosity of our team. All of the gifts are purchased by funds donated from Local 864 and our staff. And our staff volunteers their time organize the event, wrap, and deliver gifts to the community. This is truly their way of giving back to a community we all love so much. We could not be more proud of their efforts every single year.
