Significant Incidents: June 2019
Renton RFA responded to 1,449 incidents during the month of June 2019. Below are details on the most significant incidents that occurred throughout the month.
8 Significant Fires
- On 6/1/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 12’s area at the 3300 block of NE 10th St in the Renton Highlands. We responded with King County Medic One with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 19 personnel from stations 11, 12, 14 and 15. The fire was successfully extinguished but it did spread to trees next to the house. There were no injuries due to the fire. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident.
- On 6/11/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 17’s area at the 1600 block of Olympia Ave SE in the Tiffany Park neighborhood. We responded with Tukwila FD with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 16 personnel from stations 11, 13 and 17. This was an exterior fire with minimal spread to the attic and kitchen. The fire was successfully extinguished with no injuries due to the fire. No one was displaced as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire was under investigation after being extinguished.
- On 6/18/19 Renton RFA responded to a cooking fire in Station 14’s area at the 400 block of Renton Center Way SW in Downtown Renton. We responded with Tukwila FD with 2 engines and 2 officer rigs for a total of 8 personnel from stations 11 and 14. This was a cooking fire in the roasting oven at the Feast Buffet Restaurant. The fire was initially extinguished by kitchen staff but fire department response completed suppression efforts. The fire did not spread and was successfully extinguished with no injuries due to the fire. The building was ventilated and turned back over to the business.
- On 6/21/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 15’s area at the 3800 block of Park Ave N in the Kennydale neighborhood. We responded with 2 engines and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel from stations 12 and 15. The initial fire was successfully extinguished by the resident of the home. A second beauty bark fire was discovered by fire crews and extinguished. The fires were caused by the use of a blowtorch for weed burning earlier in the day. There were no injuries due to the fire. No residents were displaced as a result of this fire.
- On 6/21/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 11’s area at the 200 block of Park Ave N in Downtown Renton. We responded with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 19 personnel from stations 11, 12, 14 and 15. The fire was in a building structure owned by the Renton School district scheduled to be torn down. The fire was successfully extinguished by the fire department crews with no injuries. At the time of the incident, the cause of the fire was unknown.
- On 6/21/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 12’s area at the 2200 block of NE 6th Pl in the Renton Highlands. We responded with Skyway FD with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 16 personnel from stations 11, 12, 14 and 16. The fire was successfully extinguished by the fire department crews. The cause of the fire was cooking oil that caught fire while on the stovetop. There were no injuries due to the fire. However, the residents were advised to not stay there due to the amount of other combustible products present.
- We responded with Kent FD with 2 engines, 1 ladder, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 13 personnel from stations 11, 13 and 17. This was a building fire for an unoccupied house. The fire department crews successfully extinguished the fire with no injuries as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident. The fire scene was turned over to the King County investigator.
- On 6/29/19 Renton RFA responded to a trash fire in Station 15’s area at the 1500 block of Houser Way S in the North Renton Area near Gene Coulon Park. We responded with 4 engines, 1 brush truck and 1 officer rig for a total of 15 personnel from stations 11, 13, 15 and 17. This was a trash fire in a homeless encampment near the Cedar River Dog Park. The crews were able to reach the homeless camp successfully and extinguished the fire. The fire was a result of the burning of some clothing and plant debris. There were no injuries as a result of the fire and no one was present in the homeless camp at the time of the incident. There was a makeshift oven found in the area of the fire and it is suspected that may have been the cause of the fire.
2 Significant EMS Calls
- On 6/7/19 Renton RFA responded to a shooting in Station 14’s area at the 500 block of Stevens Ave SW near Downtown Renton. We responded with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 aid car, 1 officer rig and chaplain services for a total of 7 personnel from stations 13 and 14. Crews worked to resuscitate a male in his 20’s with a gunshot wound to the chest. Crews tried for 25 minutes but the patient ultimately died on the scene. There were no other injuries as a result of this incident. Chaplain services were provided to the witness of the incident and the scene was secured by the police.
- On 6/15/19 Renton RFA responded to a shooting/stabbing in Station 11’s area at the 200 block of Williams Ave S in Downtown Renton. We responded with Skyway FD and King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel from station 11. A male in his twenties entered a bar and began threatening patrons with a knife. The police responded to subdue the person with the knife and take them into custody. Renton RFA responded to the incident to treat a patient who had been stabbed and another patient who had been shot. Resuscitation efforts for the patient who was shot were unsuccessful.
