Significant Incidents: April 2019
Renton RFA responded to 1,299 incidents during the month of April 2019. Below are details on the most significant incidents that occurred throughout the month.
3 Significant Fires
- On 4/9/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 15’s area at the 1200 block of N 34th St in the Kennydale neighborhood. We responded with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 19 personnel from stations 11, 12, 14 and 15. The fire was successfully extinguished with minimal damage and no injuries. No one was displaced as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire was likely due to weed burning being done by the resident on the side of the house.
- On 4/17/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 16’s area at the 14600 block of 160th Ave SE on the East Plateau in the Renton Highlands. We responded with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 19 personnel from stations 11, 12, 16 and 17. The fire was successfully extinguished with no injuries to the occupant of the residence. A King County Fire Investigator was called out to the fire scene. The investigator determined the cause of the fire was due to a nail having impacted some electrical wiring.
- On 4/21/19 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Kent FD’s jurisdiction at the 22400 block of Benson Rd SE in Kent. We responded with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11 and 13. We successfully assisted Kent FD with extinguishing the fire. There were no injuries due to the fire. However, 10 adults and 2 children were displaced as a result of the fire.
7 Significant EMS Calls
- On 4/11/19 Renton RFA responded to a head on motor vehicle accident with injuries in Station 11’s area at the intersection of Renton Ave S and SW Victoria St near the Renton Airport. We responded with Skyway FD and King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11 and 12. One patient was critically injured, needed extrication from their vehicle, was treated at the scene and transported to Harborview Medical Center for further medical treatment. A second injured patient was treated at the scene and transported to Valley Medical Center for further medical treatment. The cause of the accident was undetermined.
- On 4/20/19 Renton RFA responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in Station 13’s area at the intersection of S Carr Rd & 98th Ave S in the Benson Hill neighborhood. We responded with Kent FD and King County Medic One with 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 12 personnel from stations 11, 13 and 14. This was a single car accident which involved a vehicle going off of the road into a ravine. There was no obvious injuries with the driver as a result of the accident. The accident scene was turned over to Renton Police.
- On 4/21/19 Renton RFA responded to an EMS call in Station 14’s area at Popeye’s Chicken in Downtown Renton. We responded with 1 engine for a total of 3 personnel from Station 14. A 17-year-old female Popeye’s Chicken employee collapsed at a work and struck her head in the process. The patient was treated at the scene by EMT personnel then transported by ambulance to Valley Medical Center for further treatment.
- On 4/22/19 Renton RFA responded to a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident in Station 11’s area at the intersection of N 6th St and Park Ave N near Renton Boeing. We responded with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11 and 12. A 54-year-old male was struck by a vehicle while in the crosswalk. The patient was evaluated and treated for injuries due to the accident. Patient was transported to Valley Medical Center for further treatment.
- On 4/22/19 Renton RFA responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in Station 14’s area on northbound I-405 at southbound SR167. We responded with Kent FD, Burien FD and King County Medic One with 1 engine and 1 officer rig for a total of 4 personnel from station 14. This was a single car rollover accident with a patient trapped in the car. The patient was extricated and assessed for injuries. The accident scene was turned over to Renton Police.
- On 4/25/19 Renton RFA responded to roommate domestic dispute in Station 11’s area at the Sunset View Apartments on the 2100 block of SW Sunset Blvd. We responded at Renton PD’s request with 2 engines and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel from station 11 and 14. After SWAT was able to detain the suspect they were evaluated for injuries by RFA personnel. The suspect appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance and was transported to Valley Medical Center for further treatment.
- On 4/26/19 Renton RFA responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in Station 11’s area on northbound I-405 at Exit 4. We responded with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 2 aid cars and 1 officer rig for a total of 11 personnel from station 11, 12, 14 and 17. The driver of the one of the vehicles was seriously injured and unconscious. All patients had to be extricated from their vehicles. One patient was treated at the scene and transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment. Another patient was treated at the scene and transported to Valley Medical Center. The accident scene was turned over to Renton Police.
