Significant Incidents: June 2018

Renton RFA responded to 1,340 incidents during the month of June, 2018. Below are details on the most significant incidents that occurred throughout the month.

6 Significant Fires

  • On 6/1/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire in Skyway. We provided assistance to Skyway FD with 2 engines, 1 ladder truck and 2 officer rigs for a total of 11 personnel from stations 11 and 14.  The structure fire was caused by a cooking fire that spread from the kitchen.  Since this was an out of jurisdiction incident it is unknown if anyone was displaced by the incident.
  • On 6/2/18 Renton RFA responded to an apartment structure fire in Skyway. We provided assistance to Skyway FD with 1 engine and 1 officer rig for a total of 4 personnel from station 11.  The cause of the structure fire was undetermined at the time of the incident but the fire is being investigated by the King County Fire Investigator.  One adult female was displaced and is getting assistance form the Red Cross.
  • On 6/3/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on SE 180th St in the Fairwood neighborhood. We responded in conjunction with Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority with 2 engines, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 10 personnel from stations 13 and 17.  The structure fire was caused by a portable heater that shorted out while plugged into the wall.  Two adult females were displaced and are getting assistance form the Red Cross.
  • On 6/6/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire in Skyway. We provided assistance to Skyway FD in conjunction with King County Medic One and Tukwila FD with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck and 2 officer rigs for a total of 8 personnel from station 11.  The cause of the structure fire was undetermined at the time of the incident but the fire is being investigated by the King County Fire Investigator.  Red Cross had been requested to provide assistance for the residents.
  • On 6/21/18 Renton RFA responded to an RV fire on northbound I-405 at N 30th We responded in conjunction with Tukwila FD, Bellevue FD and Skyway FD with 2 engines and 1 officer rig for a total of 7 personnel from stations 11 and 12.  The cause of the RV fire was undetermined at the time of the incident but the RV fire also ignited a brush fire on the hillside next to the freeway which was extinguished by the fire crews on scene.
  • On 6/29/18 Renton RFA responded to a structure fire on SE 164th St in the Benson Hill neighborhood. We responded in conjunction with Tukwila FD and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority with 2 engines, 1 aid car, 1 ladder truck and 2 officer rigs for a total of 13 personnel from stations 11, 13 and 17.  The structure fire was caused by a spark from electrical equipment.  No one was injured or displaced.

5 Significant EMS

  • On 6/1/18 Renton RFA responded to a 2 car motor vehicle accident at S 2nd St in Downtown Renton. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine and 1 officer rig for a total of 4 personnel from station 11.  There were only minor injuries reported as a result of the incident.
  • On 6/8/18 Renton RFA responded to a 2 car motor vehicle accident with injuries at Stevens Ave SW near Downtown Renton involving a car and a tow truck. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11, 14 and 13.  There was one critically injured patient transported to Valley Medical Center that had to be extricated.
  • On 6/18/18 Renton RFA responded to Coulon Beach Park for a reported drowning. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11 and 13.  Upon arrival the patient had already been pulled out from the water and there was ongoing bystander CPR.  CPR was continued by the EMT’s and patient transported to Harborview Medical Center for further medical treatment.
  • On 6/22/18 Renton RFA responded to an EMS call for a stabbing in the Fairwood neighborhood on 151st Ave SE. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 6 personnel from station 17.  The incident was because of a dispute between neighbors in which alcohol may have been a factor.  This incident resulted in two critically injured patients, one of which, was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
  • On 6/27/18 Renton RFA responded to a motorcycle crash on Hwy 169 and 140th Way SE. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, one aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 8 personnel from stations 11 and 17.  The motorcyclist was witnessed traveling at a very high rate of speed.  Alcohol is also suspected as being a factor in this incident.  The rider was transported to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries.

1 Significant Rescue

  • On 6/10/18 Renton RFA responded to a seaplane in the water just off shore of the Renton Airport. We responded in conjunction with Mercer Island FD with 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car, 1 dive unit and 2 officer rigs for a total of 17 personnel from stations 11, 12 and 16.  The crash was caused by a swirl of wind from a passing boat hitting one of the pontoons causing the strut to buckle and the wing of the plane to hit the water.  There were no injuries and no obvious signs of any leaked fuel from the incident.

1 Public Assistance

  • On 6/21/18 Renton RFA responded to a request for hazmat assistance in an arrest warrant being served on S 208th St in Des Moines. We provided aid to South King Fire & Rescue with 1 officer rig and 1 hazmat unit for a total of 4 personnel from station 14.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident and it was determined there was no hazmat threat.
