SUPPORT SERVICES OVERVIEW

The aptly named Support Services team provides ongoing support to our members throughout the organization in a number of  ways. This team is responsible for everything relating to our organization’s facilities, fleet vehicles, logistics, and planning. Without them, our firefighters would not have functional facilities to operate from; well-maintained vehicles to respond with; the supplies and equipment required to provide a timely, efficient response; nor the insights to continue to maintain a healthy work force and equipment supply for our growing community.

SERVICES

Fleet

The Support Services team is responsible for managing the organization’s fleet. This critical role ensures that all emergency response vehicles are in top shape so that our firefighters can respond at a moments notice. They work to ensure each vehicle is properly maintained for maximum functionality and useful life. We never have to worry about the reliability of our vehicles.

Purchasing and managing vehicle surplus also falls to this team. When a new vehicle is needed, they negotiate a competitive bid and work with internal and external teams to ensure the vehicle is optimally equipped and properly branded. When a vehicle goes into retirement, they facilitate stripping, salvaging, and auctioning the vehicle to reduce waste in the off-boarding process and to help off-set the cost of new equipment.

Facilities

Just like our fleet, the Support Services team ensures that all of our facilities remain well maintained and function at the highest level for our needs. Our facilities are not only where our vehicle and gear assets are stored. Our firefighters work in 24-hour shifts, spending day and night at our facilities, ready to respond to any emergency request. Support Services ensures that these facilities are prepared to handle this type of occupancy 24/7, and that our facilities flow efficiently to maximize our work flow and response time.

Logistics

Support Services keeps the entire organization adequately supplied with the tools they need to do their job – from basic office essentials, to public education tools, to the life-saving gear our firefighters wear to protect themselves while they protect the community. They are the reason we have everything we need, when we need it, using strong communication and data analysis to anticipate needs and make sure supplies are delivered on time. They also work hard to stay aligned with the annual budget.

Planning

Planning helps navigate how the organization moves forward. This team collects statistics and data to make strategic recommendations for how to best optimize our tactics to better serve the community. They’re responsible for creating the Renton RFA Standards of Cover. They are also instrumental in facilitating the annual Benefit Charge and helping property owners through the process. The planning section of the Support Services team manages our accreditation and works to help us improve our fire protection rating.
