Significant Incidents: October 2018

Renton RFA responded to 1,278 incidents during the month of October, 2018. Below are details on the most significant incidents that occurred throughout the month.

4 Significant Fires

On 10/3/18 Renton RFA responded to an out of jurisdiction detached garage fire at the 20500 block of SE 145th St in the East Plateau. We responded in conjunction with Eastside Fire & Rescue with 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 12 personnel from stations 11, 12 and 16.  The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident.  There were no reported injuries but 3 dogs perished in the fire.

On 10/6/18 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 12’s area at the 900 block of N 35th St in the Highlands. We responded with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11 and 13.  The cause of the fire was determined to be the furnace in the basement.  There were no injuries as a result of the fire.  The structure was turned back over to the homeowner and occupants were able to return inside.

On 10/7/18 Renton RFA responded to an out of jurisdiction building fire at the 12400 block of SE 238th Pl in Kent. We responded in conjunction with Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority with 1 officer rig to assist with incident command.  The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident but appeared to start in the laundry room of the house.  There were no reported injuries.

On 10/17/18 Renton RFA responded to a building fire in Station 12’s area at the 300 block of Union Ave SE in the Highlands. We responded in conjunction with Eastside Fire & Rescue with 3 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 2 officer rigs for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11, 12 and 16.  The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the incident.  There were no injuries as a result of the fire.  The structure was turned back over to the homeowner and no one was displaced.

3 Significant EMS Calls

On 10/1/18 Renton RFA responded to a 2-car motor vehicle accident in Station 13’s area at the intersection of S Carr Rd and 98th Ave S in the Benson Hill neighborhood. We responded in conjunction with 1 engine, 1 ladder truck, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 9 personnel from stations 11 and 13.  The cause of the accident was determined to be crossing into oncoming traffic.  There were no reported injuries.

On 10/7/18 Renton RFA responded to a shooting in Station 11’s area at the 400 block of Rainier Ave S in Downtown Renton. We responded in conjunction with King County Medic One with 1 engine, 1 aid car and 1 officer rig for a total of 6 personnel from stations 11 and 13.  The cause of the shooting was undetermined at the time of the incident.  The male victim was transported to Valley Medical Center for treatment.

On 10/28/18 Renton RFA responded to an out of jurisdiction water rescue at the 28200 block of Redondo Beach Drive S in Des Moines. We responded in conjunction with South King Fire & Rescue with 1 aid car, 1 officer rig and one dive unit for a total of 6 personnel.  This was a car in the water with an occupant trapped inside.  Dive 12 performed water rescue ops saving the occupant and secured the submerged vehicle to the tow truck to be pulled out of the water.
