FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RENTON, WA, 06/26/2026 —
The Renton Regional Fire Authority wants to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July! We would also like to remind everyone that consumer fireworks are illegal in the city of Renton, with a similar ban in unincorporated King County that includes neighboring communities like Fairwood.
The ban in Renton was enacted in May of 2005 in an effort to limit injuries and property damage caused by fireworks. Over twenty years later, this effort is still just as important today as the misuse and malfunction of fireworks continue to cause hundreds of injuries and fires in Washington state every year. In fact, according to the Washington State Patrol’s 2024 Fire in Washington report there were over 2,200 fireworks-related fires and 916 injuries reported from 2020 to 2024. In 2024, 61% of these reported fireworks-related injuries were burns, with the face/head and hand/arm being the body parts most often afflicted.
The city of Renton will be hosting Renton’s Hometown 4th of July celebration at Cedar River Park with music, games, and refreshments on July 4th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If you still want fireworks to be a part of your Independence Day celebrations, consider attending a public firework display such as those in Seattle, Bellevue, or Tacoma. For at home celebrations, please consider using safer firework alternatives like glow sticks or LED light displays.
